Join Us for LOGOPHILE: A Garden of Words in Inwood
Poets & Writers share their work at Bruce's Garden - Sept 4, 6:30 PM
Have I ever told you I’ve long wanted to bring together artists and lovers of art — a celebration of words, of curious intellect, of beauty — to Inwood for the longest time? I wrote about the longing for connection around art in this neighborhood in 2007, and since then have craved a space to bring everyone together and revel in the generative energy of creativity.
The time has come: I am so excited to invite you to an enchanting evening of words and wonder at the beautiful Bruce's Garden in Inwood — "LOGOPHILE: Poetry + Prose," a gathering of poets and writers celebrating the power of storytelling.
Wednesday, September 4
6:30 PM - 8:30 PM, refreshments served
Bruce's Garden, 11 Park Terrace East, Inwood
You will hear from the talent that is Donna Airoldi, James Bosley, Nicco Diaz, Amy Lee Pearsall, Becks Perez, Carolina Pichardo, Kim Thai… and me!
This gathering is an opportunity to showcase the cultural vibrancy of our neighborhood and to further challenge the notion that great art only happens downtown...or even Brooklyn ;) . Our goal is to support our longstanding artistic community, encouraging both established and emerging voices to share their work while continuing to foster an environment where art is accessible to all Upper Manhattan residents.
The Venue: Bruce's Garden
Bruce's Garden is not just a beautiful space; it's a living memorial with a powerful story. Named after Bruce Reynolds, a Port Authority officer who lost his life responding to the events of 9/11, the garden represents resilience, community, and the transformative power of dedicated individuals.
Once a derelict space, Bruce's Garden was revitalized through the efforts of local residents, including the Reynolds family. Bruce, along with his family, played a crucial role in rehabilitating Isham Park, breathing new life into a neglected area. The Reynolds were also pioneers as one of the first African-American families to move into what was traditionally an Irish-American enclave.
If you'd like to contribute to the maintenance and future of this incredible community space, you can make a donation here or enter a raffle to win some of the materials you will hear on Sept. 4. I can’t imagine a more fitting space for this event.
Join Us! Don't miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in the power of words, connect with fellow logophiles, and experience the magic of Bruce's Garden. And please spread the word! Share this newsletter and invite friends and family who appreciate the arts. As Meena Alexander wrote, “the periodic pleasure // of small happenings // is upon us—.”
Sounds like an amazing event! I'm there in spirit :D
